April 18 – Friday ORIENTATION DAY (follow signs) Junk Ditch 3926 Smith Road, Fort Wayne Indiana 46804

A. Campsite Amenities – tribal – no water – limited electric
B. Programs Scheduled: Orientation / Safety / Save Maumee Programing / Partnership for Water Quality
*Orientation / Safety 2pm-5pm (north shore) 
- afterward supper will be served
* after 5pm – Little River Wetlands Project/Eagle Marsh Betsy Yankowiak to discuss significance of the area, invasives and wildlife

  • Follow all posted signs to help you
  • Save Maumee & Food NOT Bombs, Fort Wayne Chapter – to feed breakfast and supper daily
  • Launching daily at 9AM daily
  • Campfire water discussion nightly
  • Must be at Landing by dark
  • Lights-out by midnight nightly

OTHERS SHOULD PUT-IN East of Hosey Dam on Niagara Drive or DROP OFF LUGGAGE TO PORTAGE OVER HOSEY DAM
: PORTAGE Hosey Dam (Fort Wayne) at Anthony Blvd. – BYO canoe for canoers who may not want to portage dam or prefer to not launch at Junk Ditch.

April 19 Landing Saturday

(longest paddle day) – north shore – New Haven North River Road Nature Area –  North River Road, 1/2 mile east of Landin Rd. New Haven, IN 46774  (New Haven Parks & Rec. Mike Clendenen/Anna Gurney)

April 20 Landing EASTER Sunday

(ETA: 2-3 hours) – south shore – Blue Cast Springs 21412 Bluecast Rd. Woodburn IN 46797 (Acres Land Trust Nature Preserve, Casey Jones)

April 21 Landing Monday

Landing: 11312-11498 The Bend Rd, Sherwood, OH 43556 Private Property
Bend Access – Maumee Scenic River – north shore – (ETA: 6-7 hours)

B. Programs Scheduled – River Network presentation on how to be an effective river advocate! Thanks to Paco Ollervides from the Great Lakes Region of River Network!

DIRECTIONS FOR LAND CREW: Take Scenic Route Old 24 (aka S.R. 424) to The Bend Road (aka S.R. 134)

*find signs near the north side of the Maumee River Bridge.
*parking on north side of the river and east side of The Bend Road (SR 134)
*camping on the north side of the river and west side of The Bend Road

Private Property – KEEP EVERYTHING ON THE LANE AND PLEASE DO NOT STEP ON CROPS – CONDITIONS WILL BE WET.  DROP THINGS OFF (Stations will be marked) BUT DO NOT PARK THERE – PARK ACROSS THE ROAD FROM CAMP at the public parking area called “Bend Access”  Riverside Park Antwerp, 35 river miles to Defiance-  -south shore – City of Antwerp, OH) cannot see the points from the water 

April 22 EARTH DAY Landing Tuesday

CELEBRATIONS: Defiance, Ohio (ETA: 5 hours)

Landing: Pontiac Park – north shore – DEFIANCE OHIO FOR EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS
Walk from Pontiac Park over the Maumee River

ALL Programs Scheduled FOR THE DAY HERE: 

* Defiance County & Allen County Soil and Water Conservation Districts
* Upper Maumee Watershed Management Plan RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC
* City of Defiance MS4 presentation.
* Several walking destinations throughout the day.
*US EPA will be there for answering questions

CANOE CREW MUST HAVE YOUR BUDDY BOAT LOADED ON CANOE TRAILER BEFORE YOU CAN LEAVE THIS LOCATION
PORTAGE Independence Dam

Final Landing (Canoe Crew & Land Crew) Reynolds private property – north shore – canoes will be portaged downstream to this location via trailers
– from Old US 24 Scenic Byway turn right on Coon Hallow Drive…THEN turn right again
12 miles downstream of Independence State Park, 869 Coon Hallow Drive, Napoleon OH 43545
1. Campsite Amenities: Electricity, NO WATER
2. Activities: Downtime for Canoers & Land Crew

April 23 Landing Wednesday

Landing: Napoleon Municipal Park Boat Launch – (ETA: 6-7 hours) – north shore (via Napoleon Parks & Rec Tony Cotter)

Directions: heading east on W. Riverview Ave.  – turn right onto BOATRAMP AVE. in Napoleon, OH 43545
A. Campsite Amenities: toilet & pavilion

April 24 Landing Thursday

Landing: Mary Jane Thurston State Park – (ETA: 6 hours) south shore – (ODNR State Parks Manager, Katie Reimund)
Land Crew directions: heading east on 1-466 State Route 65 (scenic route) McClure, OH 43534 turn left into CAMPING AREA  drive straight to the river then turn left – camp there

A. Campsite Amenities: toilet – water – (electric if you pay)

B. Programs Scheduled: Service project of planting with ODNR!
Program: Maumee River Coordinator for Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments, Matt Horvat

*The group is expecting rapid conditions between Mary Jane Thurston State Park and Perrysburg/Maumee Ohio ~ CAUTION

*Evaluate options A & B and reach a democratic decision for April 25

April 25 Friday INFO/CAMP ALL DAY AT MARY JANE THURSTON STATE PARK

Programing: Protect our Pollinators – Bee Presentation
OPTION A.  STAY at Mary Jane Thurston another day so programing will remain on location

(load canoes and don’t leave the campsite)

OPTION B. Canoe Crew either paddles OR rides with Road Crew to:
* Programing Location: Blue Grass Island (MetroParks)
OR
 * Programing Location: Audubon Island Nature Preserve (ODNR)

– potential to not unload canoes until Saturday April 26
– Maple Street will be Launching Point at 9AM Saturday the 26th for the last leg of our journey

April 26 Saturday Launching point & CONVOY’S DESTINATION

9AM Maple Street public boat launch: Maple Street Boat Launch in Perrysburg, OH (Maple St. dead-ends into the Maumee River) EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO LAUNCH THEIR OWN BOATS WITH US at 9AM Saturday the 26th for the last leg of our journey

Landing & DESTINATION REACHED– International Park Pavilion – 
 (ETA: 6 hours) – south shore (Rails to Trails, Toledo, Ohio)

Land Crew directions: turn into “The Docks” International Park – from Front Street OR  Main Street and Richard W. Boers Dr. in Toledo, OH

Programs scheduled:  Toledo Food NOT Bombs to feed everyone

U.S. Coast Guard Kevin Biami & Jennifer Disco
U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will join the canoe crew!
