Purpose

To develop and implement a full scope communications and marketing strategy, which encompasses internal and external communications, brand identity, cause-related marketing, public awareness, and fund raising.

Position Requirements

A bachelor’s degree or higher in marketing, communications.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated organizational, time management, and managerial skills.

Commitment to the mission, values, and goals of Save Maumee Grassroots Organization.

Ability to interact and work well with coworkers and the community.

Maintain active membership in the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), including adherence to AFP’s Code of Ethics.

Supervision

The Director of Marketing and Fundraising receives supervision from the Vice-President. The Director of Marketing and Fundraising supervises the Development Comittee.

Schedule

This is a full time position that often requires work after regular office hours. It is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Job Responsibilities

Communication:

Acts as agency’s representative at various community functions, civic groups, etc., making presentations to those groups to educate the community as to the mission and needs of Save Maumee Grassroots Organization.

Actively seek opportunities to communicate the worth and mission of Save Maumee Grassroots Organization through public addresses, newsletters, news releases, and social functions.

Incorporate critical aspects of the long-term vision and program development into the seasonal mailings along with statistical information concerning agency successes.

Lead the development of quarterly regional forums with organizations of like purpose to discuss mutual concerns, issues, and support requirements.

Develop an annual marketing plan that adheres to budget constraints and maximizes the strengths of the development department.

Host periodic organization showcase orientations for selected community service clubs, foundation managers, business and political leaders and potential major donors to cultivate future support, such as our current Annual Member’s Meeting.

Establish liaisons with other non-profits, governmental organizations and service clubs.

Approve all marketing literature before dissemination to the public.

Maintain active and positive relations with major donors, foundations, and the United Way.

Maintain and expand database for donor tracking through Donor II software or another, more updated software.

Oversee the entry and acknowledgement of all gifts including monetary and in-kind.

Host public relations events and community service projects, such as the Canoe Clean-up and Earth Day. This will also include guided river visits to implement a current lesson plan that directly relates to our mission.

B.  Funding:

Research, oversee, and prepare grant proposals for foundations and corporations. This will include overseeing a committee to assist with writing and implementing those proposals.

Organize special events and develop new events as indicated.

Oversee and enhance a planned giving program for Save Maumee.

a.  Cultivate potential planned giving donors.

b.  Make presentations to groups concerning planned giving options.

c.  Develop relationships.

Professional Development

The Director of Marketing and Fundraising is expected to grow professionally and develop evolving marketing skills, while always upholding Save Maumee Grassroots Organization’s Mission Statement.  In keeping with this expectation, a training budget will be  provided for the purpose of education to our community regarding our mission. If seminars, workshops, and professional meetings require a fee, the board will vote on the importance and will allow a budget if needed to maintain current skills.
